Sprinkle Cake

Last week I had a little lunch in honor of my soon to be grandson. I thought I would share a picture of the cake I made. I made a pound cake then dirty iced it with butter cream icing.
I then used precolored fondant and covered the cake with the light blue. Next, I cut shapes out and water pasted them on the cake. We had such a nice day....can't wait to meet little Johnny!

Cake Table
The blue table cloth was my mother's.
Made me feel like a piece of her was with us.

Of course, Vera had to be a part of the fun.

Easter Morning Quiche

This is nice to serve for a brunch. You can make it the day before and just heat it up in the morning.

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded  cheddar cheese
  • 4 teaspoons all-purpose  four
  • 1/2 cup cooked ham, diced / spinach /  crumbled bacon or crumbled cooked sausage
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground dry mustard
  • 1 (9 inch) unbaked pie crust
Mix cheese and flour and place into pie crust.  Mix remaining ingredients until smooth. Then, pour into pie shell and cook for 60 minutes at 400 degrees.  I use tin foil around the top of the crust to prevent the crust from over cooking.

This pie was made with spinich.

This is a plain cheese quiche.

Name Banner

I wanted to put up a name banner for my daughter's baby "Sprinkle". I have searched the Internet for a baby boy banner.  I wasn't happy with many of them or they were too pricey for what I wanted. I searched, "Etsy" and the Pinterest.  There are some cute ones out there but none of them really caught my eye.  I then thought....make one yourself.  And, that is just what I did.
It turned out really cute.

I went to Micheal's to find some card stock paper.  It was rather expensive there, so I decided to head over to Wal-Mart.  I found $5.00 packs of little boy style card stock.  That was compared to the same type product at Michael's for $20.00 dollars. I already had the letter stencils and I added a few baby socks to the beginning and end of the letters. I also used twine (I already had) for the letters to hang off of.
At first I used a ruler to make everything perfect but then I thought, it shouldn't be perfect. I believe that DIY projects should come from the heart and like everyone, they should be unique. So, you will see that this banner may not be perfectly spaced, but it is made perfectly from my heart to my soon to be grandson. I already love that little guy to pieces.

This card stock paper had a "Snips and Snails and Puppy Dog Tails" theme with
and a few dinosaurs added in.  Just too cute.

I cut two triangle shapes (2 sizes) for each letter and added a top trim.

I cut out the letters from a stencil, and placed each letter inside the smaller triangle.
I also glued a few buttons to the corners. Then I punched holes on the top corners
of each large triangle and carefully pulled the twine through.

I also made a clothes line rope with little bibs and booties handing
from the rope.  So Cute!

I hung the banner in front of my livingroom window.
If you look closer to the end of the rope, you can see the little socks I hung at the end of the banner.
I can't wait to meet baby Johnny!

Irish Potatoes

Today my daughter and I made a batch of  "Irish Potatoes" and they turned out so yummy. They are super sweet so one or two will do ya, but they are really good.  It's the perfect treat for St. Patty's Day.

Ingredients:
1/2 stick of softened butter
2/3 brick of softened cream cheese
1 tsp vanilla
4 cups powdered sugar
2 1/2 cups sweeten coconut
2 Tablespoon cinnamon

Cream together butter & cream cheese
add vanilla
slowly add the powder sugar
add the coconut

Once everything is mixed together, you can start making small balls. Next, roll the balls into the cinnamon until the entire ball is coated.   Refrigerate until ready to serve.  Enjoy!

 Happy St. Patrick's Day

Scarf Video

Last night was girls night out.  A few friends and I met at my sister's house for a pot luck dinner.  It was a fun to catch up on each others life.  While there, my sister Debbie was wearing a real cute pink vest that she had made out of a scarf.    I videoed her showing us how to make one.  I am going to give it a try and make a bathing suit cover up.  It really is a cute idea and practicable too. Enjoy the video!

Lucky Charms Snack

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
I saw this cute little idea on "Pinterest" and just had to make them.  All you need is a box of  "Lucky Charms" cereal, snack bags and the label downloaded from the blog that originally posted the idea. By the way her blog is a lot of fun so check it out.

I am going to give them out to my staff on St. Patrick's Day !

Gift Baskets

I love it when someone gives me a gift basket, know matter what the theme or reason. It's like getting a lot of little gifts in one.  I also enjoy making them. It's such a fun way to express how you feel about a person because you can personalize each basket.  I made 2 baskets this weekend.  One is for a birthday and the other is for a friend who just recently retired.

The supplies needed for the first basket.  I with a little Mani / Pedi spa theme.
I went to the dollar store to pick up most of the items.  I also tried to stick with the color theme of green.
I love how it worked out. It makes me want to put on some relaxing music,
light the candles and give my nails a treat. Maybe enjoying a glass of wine
while I spa it up. (but it's not for me) Ha!

Here are the supplies I chose to make the "Retirement" bucket.
I bought a nice sea spray scented candle, some fresh scented hand
lotion, and a little grapevine wreath.  I also found some funky "Retired" sunglasses
and a "Retirement" photo book.  Daisy was chilling out with me while I made this gift.

I added a few seashells, a dragon fly and some personalization stickers. I stuffed the bucket with tissue paper and some paper straw. Next, added everything to a sand bucket. I used glue dots to keep everything together.
I went with a seashore type theme because the person I am giving this to, has place at the Jersey Shore.
This is my latest basket.  I made this for "Teacher Appreciation Day".
I filled it full of comfort & girlie items, then had each teacher pick out a few items for themselves.
Most of the items i bought at the dollor store, so it didn't cost me an arm and a leg.

Thoughts Of Spring

I have been playing around making cakes here and there using fondant.  I know some people think it's easy, but I have a hard time getting a large enough circumference when rolling it out. I was hoping to make a cake for St Patty's day but I couldn't get the green rolled out enough to cover the entire cake.  Oh well, I keep trying.  This is my latest try.

Thoughts of Spring!

My supplies: colored fondant, butter cream icing, shape cutters, water paint brush,
smoother, 2 boxes of Betty Crocker pound cake, wilson cake releaser,
and colored food markers and pink spray icing.

I used a square pan on the bottom and a circle on the top. Make and bake the cake as directed on the package. Once cake was baked and cooled off.  I dirty iced it with butter cream frosting. Put the cake in the fridge for about an hour to let the icing set. Time to  roll  out the fondant and cut out your shapes.  Next, I applied the shapes (using a water brush) to make the flowers and stems.

Last I sprayed my cake with a pink spray icing.
I think I might give that St. Patty's cake a second chance next week.
